The Green Development Foundation was appointed by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) regarding collaboration with respect to resource mobilisation and project management related to the Gauteng One Million Tree Planting Programme. The project is aimed at ensuring that within the period of three years, there should be one million trees planted in Gauteng Province. Amongst the one million trees planted, 60% should be fruit trees and 40% should be indigenous trees. These trees should be planted across the five regions of Gauteng province (City of Tshwane, City of Johannesburg, City of Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, and the West Rand District Municipality). These trees will contribute towards addressing the issues around climate change and global warming as well food security.
